3D Human Body Data R&D Lab

R&D Lab Director

Client: YouSpace

Team: CTO, Engineers, Technicians

YouSpace is a high-tech startup focused on human recognition and movement detection technology. Its expertise is in 3D computer vision, machine learning, and AI solutions.

The R&D data lab is focused on developing a proprietary pipeline to data capture human poses and gestures to train the YouSpace machine learning algorithms and build an accurate 3D human-surface-mapping model. The YouSpace Data Lab has produced over 10 million frames of classified 3D human training data (as of June 2019).

The training dataset used to build YS Library contains over 100 recognizable metrics, gestures, actions, and body types that are critical for interactive applications.

The Challenge

Build the data capture pipeline from the ground up. Capture human body data for YouSpace machine learning model = Fast, Accurate, Lightweight

Role and Responsibility

I was the R&D Data Lab Director. I built the data lab from the ground up, working closely with the CTO, Ralph Brunner.

Starting from material researches, testings, human behavior studies, define pose and gesture definitions and optimize the data capture procedure to a systematic pipeline. I successfully trained 2 lab technicians and data captured more than 250 human body individuals, ~7 million training data for the YouSpace proprietary 3D human-surface-mapping model.

Data Capture Development

YouSpace is building a touch-free gesture control, motion recognition technology that never existed before. 3D human body data lab is one of the core technologies for the machine learning model of the company.

Project Results

In 1.5 years, the data lab captured 263+ individuals: 45% Male Adults, 45% Female Adults, 10% Children with a database of 52 detailed body measurements.

As of August 2019, YouSpace owns 10 million labeled poses and 100+ recognizable gestures and poses.
